Library Closings

All Great Neck Library locations will be closed on Monday, February 19 for Presidents’ Day.

Great Neck Library Seeking Prospective Candidates for Board of Trustees and Nominating Committee

The next Great Neck Library Election will be held on Monday, Oct. 29, 2018. There will be seven seats expiring in January 2019.

Four of these seats – Robert Schaufeld, Joel Marcus, as well as the remaining term for the seat currently held by Josie Pizer (2021) and the remaining term for the recently vacated seat held by Francine Ferrante Krupski (2020) – are on the Board of Trustees.

Three seats are on the Nominating Committee (Donald Panetta and Howard Esterces, as well as the remaining term for the seat currently vacated by Sam Gottlieb (2021).

Any nominee for a position on the Board of Trustees or the Nominating Committee must be a member of the Great Neck Library Association or a registered voter with the Nassau County Board of Elections by the Record Date of Oct. 1, 2018.

Teen and Parent Yoga Classes at Main

Join a teen (for teens in grades 7 – 12) and parent yoga class on Sunday, Feb. 18 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

Build trust and positive feelings, foster creativity and improve learning capacity in these  teen and parent together yoga classes. Yoga decreases stress, builds positive self-image, develops confidence and improves physical and mental strength in a noncompetitive, supportive environment. The classes will be taught by Sharon Epstein, a skilled and passionate yoga instructor who has experience with all ages and levels. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat and water bottle.

The next session is scheduled for Saturday, March 3 from 11:00 a.m. to noon. You are welcome to attend one or more of the classes. There is separate registration for each class. Teens and parents register individually with their own library cards. Parental attendance is encouraged, not required. Contact Courtney Greenblatt, Young Adult Librarian, 466-8055, ext. 218.

Mindfulness Meditation facilitated by Carolyn Carpentiere at Main

Carolyn Carpentiere will facilitate Mindfulness Meditation on Tuesday, Feb. 20 from
7:15 to 8:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

Meditation is a practice that strengthens our focus and attention, as well as
releases stress to stay healthy. Open to all skill levels. Please bring a mat or use our chairs.

Wednesday Matinee Film at Main

The next Wednesday Matinee at Main, about a secluded gardener whose entire knowledge of the world is from television, will be shown on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 2:00 p.m. at the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

Lakeville Literary Club

Chess at Main

Enjoy a game of chess each Wednesday from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue. All skill levels are welcome.

Scrabble at Station

Enjoy a game of Scrabble on Wednesdays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., now at the Station Branch, 26 Great Neck Road (second level), Gardens at Great Neck Plaza, above Best Market. Please note new day of the week and location.

Project Independence at Parkville

Attend the ongoing Project Independence Groups at Parkville. The Social Discussion Group meets on Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and the Men’s Group meets on Fridays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Parkville Branch, 10 Campbell Street (off Lakeville Road), New Hyde Park. The upcoming meetings will be held on Feb. 22 and 23.

In order to access this service, Library District residents can log on to cancellations.com, type in their zip code or Great Neck Library and obtain information on program cancellations or Library closings. In addition, at no charge, residents can request automatic e-mails from cancellations.com when the Library has posted any information.
