Great Neck North and South High Art Students Selected Works on Exhibit
All are welcome to a reception for the Great Neck North and South High School Art Students Selected Works Exhibit to be held on Wednesday, June 20 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Main Library Art Gallery, lower lobby, 159 Bayview Avenue.
John L. Miller Great Neck North High is exhibiting work from freshmen, sophomores, and juniors from the Studio Art II, III, and Advanced Art classes. Observational Still Life and Self-Portraiture study are two themes explored and revisited. Artists include Daniella Cohen, Lior Cole, Nora Golbari, Giselle Hakimi, Maya Hofman, Lenor Levy, Christine Li, Alice Liu, Aaron Malekan, Shang Ni, Ainav Rabinowitz, Omer Shafir, Mandy Sun, and Sarah Tang. Fine and Performing Arts Department Chair is Dr. Pam Levy. Fine Art Teachers are Samantha Barratt, Joseph Giacalone, Linda Haase, and Emily Man.
William A. Shine Great Neck South High is exhibiting the Self-Portrait work of juniors from the Advanced Studio Class. Artists featured are Danae Byer, Rena Chen, Emily Gao, Giannie Guerra, Mingyu Hu, Katherine Hui, Emily Lee, Kathleen Lu, and Rachel Schneider. Art Department Chair is Karen Cuchel. Teachers are Colleen Campbell, Lisa Stancati, Katherine Saltoun, and Safia Fatimi.
Levels History Display at Main
A Levels History display is on view until June 20 at the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue, in the display case located on the main level. The display will be updated weekly with different photos, articles, and other Levels’ memorabilia from 1974 to the present. The Great Neck Library History Collection has Great Neck North High Arista and South High Vista yearbooks on display until June 20 in the Main Library Gallery, lower level, 159 Bayview Avenue. Come and look at these nostalgic books in the display cases.
Saturday Movie Matinee at Parkville
Enjoy a screening of a popular children’s film once a month at 1 p.m. at the Parkville Branch, 10 Campbell Street (off Lakeville Road), New Hyde Park. The upcoming film will be screened on Saturday, June 16.
New Beginnings Singles 50 Plus facilitated by Marla Matthews at Main
Join the conversation or just come and listen when Marla Matthews, social worker and television talk show host of The Relationship Journey, facilitates this growing discussion, social and support group meetup on Saturday, June 16 at 4:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue. If you are divorced, widowed, single, or an empty nester age 50 plus who would like a new beginning, come and be inspired to make new friends, network and learn new skills towards reinventing yourself.
Current Issues in the News with Rhoda Plotkin at Station
Join Rhoda Plotkin for a discussion about what is happening today when she facilitates Current Issues in the News, a new series at the Station Branch, 26 Great Neck Road (2nd level), Gardens at Great Neck Plaza, above Best Market. The next discussion will be held on Monday, June 18 at 2 p.m.
For more than a decade Rhoda has led “Current Issues in the News” discussions at Independent Living programs on Long Island and in Manhattan regarding domestic and international issues facing America. She was Executive Director of the National Committee on American Foreign Policy, and co-produced a monthly radio series.
St. Francis Community Outreach Van at Main
Have a free health screening in St. Francis Hospital’s state-of-the-art outreach van on Tuesday, June 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Main Library parking lot, 159 Bayview Avenue. These screenings include a brief cardiac history, blood pressure, simple blood test for cholesterol, and diabetes screenings with the appropriate patient education and referrals needed for people above the age of 18. First come, first served. No registration required.
Allies in Wellness with Librarian Mimi Rabizadeh at Main
Attend this new study group led by Librarian Mimi Rabizadeh, focusing on a 360-degree perspective on wellness. Discussions will focus on four elements of wellness: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. The next meeting is on Tuesday, June 19 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue. Registration strongly suggested by calling ext. 218 or 219 or registering online.

In addition, at no charge, residents can request automatic e-mails from cancellations.com when the Library has posted any information. This is a way for Library District residents who are connected online to be advised of weather related changes in Library hours or programs.
