Piano Recital Performed by Sina Kiai at Main

All are invited to a piano recital performed by Sina Kiai on Sunday, March 25 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

Music selections will feature representative 19th century masterpieces of piano music from the revolutionary “Appassionata” of Beethoven, to the character and salon pieces of Schubert, Brahms, Chopin, and others.

This recital was arranged by the Great Neck Library Music Advisory Committee, now in its 47th year. The committee is co-chaired by founding member Gabe Chieco and Michele Ganz, and includes members Mary Dehn and Estelle Pace. This all volunteer committee of Great Neck residents represents a wide range of musical experience and performance.

Women’s History Month
The Dinner Party by Judy Chicago Art Lecture Slide Presentation at Main presented by Mary Vahey

Mary Vahey will give a lecture and slide presentation on The Dinner Party, an installation artwork by feminist artist Judy Chicago, on Monday March 26 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

Widely regarded as the first epic feminist artwork, The Dinner Party functions as a symbolic history of women in Western civilization. There are 39 elaborate place settings arranged along a triangular table for 39 mythical and historical famous women.

Mary Vahey is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Art History at the State University of New York.

Lyme Disease and Ticks presented by Dr. Penny Stern of Northwell Health at Main

Dr. Penny Stern will tell us what we need to know about Lyme Disease on Tuesday, March 27 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

Lyme Disease is not just something that interferes with our enjoyment of the outdoors. It can be associated with severe illness. Come learn about the etiology, diagnosis and treatment of Lyme Disease and, most importantly, how you can take practical steps to prevent infection.

Dr. Penny Stern is the Director, Preventive Medicine at the Department of Occupational Medicine, Epidemiology, and Prevention and the Center for Equity of Care, the Co-Chair of the system-wide Continuing Medical Education Committee, and an Assistant Professor at the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine. She is board certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine.

AARP Tax Assistance at Parkville

AARP Tax Preparers will assist in preparing and filing simple Federal tax returns online on Wednesdays between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. through April 11 at the Parkville Branch, 10 Campbell Street (off Lakeville Road), New Hyde Park. Genealogy Workshop at Parkville

For anyone interested in learning about how to research his or her genealogy online, the Great Neck Library will offer a special hands-on learning experience on Wednesday, March 28 at 9 a.m. at the Parkville Branch, 10 Campbell Street (off Lakeville Road), New Hyde Park. The experience will include using library databases and other websites to teach people how to find out all about their family’s history. Registrants must already have an email address, and be comfortable with basic internet searching.

Wednesday Matinee Film at Main

The next Wednesday Matinee at Main, about the 1973 tennis match between women’s world champion Billie Jean King and ex-men’s-champ Bobby Riggs, will be shown on Wednesday, March 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

Lakeville Literary Club

The Lakeville Literary Club will discuss Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter on Wednesday, March 28 at 7 p.m. at the Lakeville Branch, 475 Great Neck Road. The disappearance of a teenage girl and the murder of a middle-aged man, almost a quarter-century apart: what could connect them? Register by calling 466-8055, ext. 232.

Parkville Book Club

Join the Parkville Book Club for a discussion of Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson on Thursday, March 29 at 1:30 p.m. at the Parkville Branch, 10 Campbell Street (off Lakeville Road), New Hyde Park.
