35th Annual Sakura Chorus Concert at Main
All are invited to enjoy the Great Neck Japanese Women’s Sakura Chorus perform a variety of Japanese and classical favorites accompanied by piano at their 35th annual concert on Sunday, March 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.
The ladies of the Sakura Chorus take pride in building a musical and cultural bridge between the U.S. and Japan. The members of the Chorus live in various communities across Long Island, and rehearse weekly at the Main Library. Chairperson: Shigeno Okamoto, Conductor: Yuko Tsuda, Pianist: Rikako Asanuma. Program: Edelweiss, Nessun dorma!, Laudate Dominum, Japanese Favorites, Suite “Kokoro no Shiki” … and more.
The White House’s East Wing and the Role of the American First Lady presented by Marilyn Carminio at Main
Join Marilyn Carminio when she talks about the challenging role of the American First Lady on Tuesday, March 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.
Marilyn Carminio’s research is based on multiple sources and her multimedia presentation format provides a rich experience for the listener. Marilyn was a NYC teacher and went on to work in magazine publishing including at Cosmopolitan, Elle and New Woman.
Mindfulness Meditation with Carolyn Carpentiere at Main
Carolyn Carpentiere will facilitate Mindfulness Meditation on Tuesday, March 20 from 7:15 to 8:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.
Meditation is a practice that strengthens our focus and attention, as well as releases stress to stay healthy. Open to all skill levels. Please bring a mat or use the library’s chairs.
Carolyn received her 200 hour yoga certification at Long Island Yoga School in 2009 and has continued to work in and study many other holistic solutions to health including Mindfulness Meditation and Reiki. She has studied at Kripalu in the Berkshires, Yoga International and the Open Center in NYC.

Mansions of Long Island: Reflections of a Bygone Era presented by Orin Finkle at Main
Noted Gold Coast historian Orin Finkle will present a lecture and slide show featuring the mansions, gardens and people of early 1900s Long Island on Thursday, March 22 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.
Orin Finkle, who has the largest private archive of period Long Island mansion material in the country, has been compiling his collection for over thirty years. He has written over 200 articles on country estates and high society for numerous publications, including The New York Times.

Great Neck Library is now a U.S. Flag Retirement Drop Box Location
The U.S. Flag Retirement Box at the Main Library was donated by Daren Chan of Boy Scout Troop 10 of Great Neck, sponsored by American Legion Post 160. The box is located next to the book drop outside the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue. The Great Neck Library thanks Daren, Boy Scouts of America, and American Legion.
