Five Wheatley students have earned New York State Archives Awards from the thirtieth annual Student Research Awards program.
This program is designed to promote and recognize excellence in student research and encourage students to explore the wealth of historical records held in historical records repositories in New York State.
It also serves to increase cooperation between schools and organizations that administer historical records useful for education. Wheatley’s research winners used a variety of archives to access primary source documents and analyze their topics of inquiry to great success.
Congratulations to Manav Bansal (2nd Place, Senior Division) for his research paper The Everglades: Wetlands not Wastelands, Anya Chabria (Honorable Mention, Senior Division) for her paper Breaking the Communication Barrier: The Economic, Political, and Social impact of Morse’s Telegraph in the Antebellum Period and Beyond, Frederick Lin (Certificate of Merit, Senior Division) for his paper The Croton Aqueduct, Emma Rosenberg (Honorable Mention, Junior Division) for her documentary Marion Anderson: Breaking the Musical Color Barrier and Maahir Kasliwal (Certificate of Merit, Junior Division) for his website The American Indian Occupation of Alcatraz Island.
