A man died early Wednesday morning after he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle in North New Hyde Park, police said.

The 50-year-old driver was heading south on New Hyde Park Road near Marcus Avenue at 1:20 a.m. when the cyclist, a 74-year-old man, veered into his lane, Nassau County police said.

The cyclist was thrown from his bicycle and knocked unconscious when the 2017 Subaru hit him, police said.

He was taken to an area hospital and later pronounced dead, police said.

Police did not name the cyclist because they had not yet notified his family.

The accident was determined to be noncriminal, but police continue to investigate, police said.

The Subaru was given a brake and safety check and released to the owner at the scene, police said.
