Catholic Health hospitals — St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center, St. Charles and St. Catherine of Siena — each have earned an ‘A’ rating in the spring 2021 Hospital Safety Scores from The Leapfrog Group. An ‘A’ is the highest rating awarded by Leapfrog.

St. Francis earned this distinction for the 17th time out of 19 ratings and has been recognized by the Leapfrog Group as a Top General Hospital, nationally. The Leapfrog Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive. St. Charles earned its 10th ‘A’ rating.

“The recognition our hospitals continue to receive from Leapfrog reflects Catholic Health’s ongoing commitment to patient safety. Our culture focuses on patient safety and putting the patient at the center of everything we do,” said Catholic Health President and CEO Patrick M. O’Shaughnessy. “I highly commend the teams at St. Francis, St. Charles and St. Catherine and all Catholic Health staff for their unwavering commitment to keeping our patients safe by providing quality medical care.”

The Leapfrog Group, a national organization committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers, devised the letter-based rating system to rank hospitals nationwide. Hospitals are rated on how well they prevent errors, infections, injuries and drug mix-ups that could lead to medical complications and unnecessary loss of life.
