Chef Maria Loi to cook at Viscardi

The Island Now

Celebrity chef Maria Loi is coming to The Viscardi Center — an Albertson-based non-profit dedicated to educating, employing, and empowering children and adults with disabilities — on the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 10 to present a live cooking demo and lead a discussion about the “12 Pillar Foods” featured in her award-winning cookbook “The Greek Diet.”

An internationally-renowned restaurateur, author, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Loi is executive chef at Loi Estiatorio in Manhattan and has written over three dozen cookbooks.

In 2016, she was elected the Ambassador of Greek Gastronomy by the Chef’s Club of Greece, a global culinary organization.

With only 65 spots available, the event provides an intimate setting for guests, who will have the opportunity to sample traditional Greek fare, meet Loi and receive a signed copy of “The Greek Diet.”

Loi is donating her time at this exclusive event in an effort to raise awareness for The Viscardi Center’s Culinary Skills Training Program, which prepares adolescents and adults with disabilities for in-demand careers in the food service industry. A portion of the proceeds supports the program.

The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at The Viscardi Center, located at 201 I.U. Willets Road in Albertson.
