More than 170 people turned out to help raise $475,000 at the Cohen Children’s Circle Annual Golf Classic.

The funds raised at Fresh Meadow Country Club in Lake Success and Deepdale Golf Club in Manhasset will support Child Life initiatives, pediatric research and clinical care programs at Cohen Children’s Medical Center.

The event honored Steve Marvin, a Deepdale Golf Club member, for his work to make the Aug. 27 event a success.

“After touring the hospital, it really hits home,” Mr. Marvin said. “Anything that can be done to help children is something we need to do.”

Among those participating in the day’s events were Gary Morris, Cohen Children’s Circle Committee Chair; Richard Gershman, Cohen Children’s Circle Golf Chair; along with members of Cohen Children’s Medical Center Advisory Board, Cohen Children’s Circle Committee, and hospital staff.

The dinner program featured Mr. Gershman serving as master of ceremonies, Michael Dowling, president and CEO of Northwell Health; Charles Schleien, MD, executive director of Cohen Children’s Medical Center and Chair of Pediatrics at Northwell Health; Emily Ertz, ambassador for the hospital, and Mr. Marvin.

“The children’s hospital has been doing fantastically well, and I just want to thank all of you who contributed to make this a special place because at the end of the day it’s all about the kids and it’s about families,” Mr. Dowling said. “All of you can go home tonight and look in the mirror and say ‘Today I had a great day, I played good golf, I enjoyed the sun, but most importantly I did a good thing.’”
