Over 2,000 children in Great Neck and surrounding areas participated in Matzah baking with The Traveling Matzah Bakery, organized by Rabbi Dovid and Chumy Ezagui of Lake Success Chabad.

The Traveling Matzah Bakery visited many local schools and synagogues like Yeshivah of Central Queens, JLE Hebrew School, North Shore Hebrew Academy, Keshet Learning Center, Rabbi Jacob Joseph School, Silverstein Hebrew Academy, Friedberg JCC, MIYJCC, Lurie Academy, Barkai School, Temple Sinai, Solomon Schechter, Chabad of Merrick, Temple Ohr Chaim and more.

Children had the opportunity to make their very own matzah. They took turns producing flour from wheat kernels, and separating the chaff from the grain. Students then collected the grain into a hand driven wheat mill and grinded it into flour. Students then rolled up their sleeves and got ready for lots of fun as they kneaded, rolled, & baked the dough into a handmade matzah.

Each student was accessorized in their own baker’s hat and apron as they put their baking skills to the test.

After making and tasting their very own matzah, children were able to sample grape juice to use at the Seder as well as sample the ingredients to make their very own bowl of Charroset for the Seder table.

The Traveling Matzah Bakery is run by Rabbi Dovid and Chumy Ezagui of Lake Success Chabad. To see the many different traveling workshops they offer please visit www.myJLE.org or www.myJLE.com
