On Saturday, July 20, kayakers and paddle boarders will challenge themselves on a five-plus mile tour around beautiful Manhasset Bay in the 15th Annual Port Washington-Manhasset Bay Kayak Run.
This event is co-presented by the Community Chest of Port Washington and the Town of North Hempstead Parks Department. Sponsored by the Peter & Jeri Dejana Family Foundation with major assistance from Atlantic Outfitters and Kostal Paddle, many paddlers look forward to this event all year long. It is the largest kayak event on Long Island.
Participants of all ages enjoy this wonderful Manhasset Bay event which begins at 10 a.m. and finishes by 1:30 pm. Boats launch from locations all around the Bay but convene at the Town Dock for the start.
Joel Ziev, Community Chest board member and Kayak Run co-director, observes, “the Kayak Run is not a race and is a great way for novices and experienced kayakers alike to get out and enjoy our beautiful Manhasset Bay.”
Beginners can feel safe kayaking longer distances knowing that assistance is always nearby provided by the Town’s Bay Constables and Port’s fire boat. Participants follow a marked route, passing checkpoints manned by Community Chest volunteers.
The Town Dock and Manorhaven Park boat ramp are the primary boat launches. Fees are $10 ($25 day of) for ages 20 and under and $25 ($45 day of) for adults and include a hat, whistle and light lunch at the finish.
Discounted kayak rentals from Atlantic Outfitters 767-2215 and Kostal Paddle (855) 567-8251 are available if you do not have your own kayak or paddleboard.
Raffle prizes (one ticket included with entry fee) include a new kayak, retail items, gift certificates to local stores and much more.

Proceeds from the Port Washington – Manhasset Bay Kayak Run benefit the Community Chest of Port Washington whose mission is to raise and distribute funds to charities dedicated to improving the Port Washington community for all residents, exemplifying the spirit of “the People of Port Helping the People of Port.”
