Albertson Square Civics Association president’s message

The Island Now

By Edward Scott

I would like to start off by wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year. We hope everyone enjoyed the holidays.

Our guest speaker for our upcoming meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 20 will be state Sen. Elaine Phillips. Phillips will be discussing the state Senate’s “Blueprint for a Stronger New York”. This is comprised of three principles: Affordability, Opportunity, and Security. She will discuss how to make Long Island more affordable to residents, especially seniors, and the importance of helping local businesses thrive. Phillips will also speak about her efforts for a clean environment.

One of our sponsors, Renu Sadhwani, CPA, will be in attendance and will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have regarding filing income taxes after the meeting.

We are pleased to inform you that the Town of North Hempstead will be replacing the present condemned gazebo this spring with a new and larger structure which will feature seating. We look forward to the winter holiday season to again host the Tree Lighting Ceremony.

Our thanks to the Town of North Hempstead for putting lights on the christmas tree during the coldest day of 2017. Special thanks to our sponsor Basil and Prime for bringing hot beverages and sandwiches to the workers in the true spirit of community.

Our 40th Anniversary Celebration held at Clark Botanic Garden in June 2017 was a huge success. We are happy to say that we will host another “Members Only” Celebration this June 19th at Clark Botanic Garden. Please join us by renewing your membership today or joining for the first time & mark your calendar to share this special event with all of us.

It is that time of the year to renew your ASCA Membership or join if you haven’t before. Please take a moment and renew or join today. Please speak with your neighbors and friends who reside in Albertson and encourage them to join. Only residents who renew their membership will be mailed future newsletters. Remember, with a strong membership, our voices will be heard.

As usual, if there are any issues or concerns, please contact the ASCA immediately.
