NYU Winthrop Hospital’s Perinatal Bereavement Team invites local residents to join in support of family and friends whose lives have been touched by the tragic loss of a baby at the 14th Annual Walk to Remember.

The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Twin Ice Rinks (adjacent to the Aquatic Center in Eisenhower Park) in East Meadow at 9 a.m. (Note this location is different than previous years.)

The annual memorial event, “The Walk to Remember,” coincides with National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month, and aims to increase the community’s understanding of the grief associated with the loss of a baby.

The event enables parents, relatives and friends who have lost a child due to pregnancy complications, stillbirth, early infant loss or fetal abnormalities to walk in remembrance of their beloved baby.

The event includes a special candle lighting/naming memorial service, and a one mile walk to the Angel of Hope.

Light refreshments are also provided.

At the conclusion of the walk, special certificates of remembrance are given to each family.

This year families are also invited and welcome to stay for iceskating after the event ($5 per person on the day of; kids under the age of five skate free).

A donation of $15 per person is suggested by Oct. 10.

Children under 12 years of age may participate in the walk for free.

All proceeds benefit NYU Winthrop’s Perinatal Bereavement Team, which is dedicated to providing education, comfort and support to help families cope with the loss of a child.
