The Art Guild of Port Washington invites all artists to enter “Palate to Palette, The Art of Food and Dining,” a juried competition and exhibition.

From sumptuous still-lifes or a single shiny apple, from casual picnics and farmers’ markets to elaborate thanksgiving dinners, food helps define tradition and culture, trigger memories and make new ones. Show us your favorites! All mediums except photography are welcome.

All artists, 18 years and older, are invited to submit up to three works for consideration. High school students ages 14-18 years may enter in the student category.

The extended deadline for submissions is midnight Sept. 22. A prospectus can be downloaded online. The exhibit will be on view from October 7-29. Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. or by appointment. An artists’ reception and awards ceremony will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 15.

The juror-of-awards for this exhibit is Susan Goetz Zwirn, the Director and Professor of Art Education at Hofstra University. Susan teaches courses in arts education, studio art, museums, and research on the brain and learning. She grew up in Port Washington and is honored to have raised and educated her children there.

As a painter, Susan’s art encompasses the realistic and abstract in both landscape and figurative images. Her work reflects a strong sense of place and mood, having been inspired by travel as well as her local surroundings of Long Island. Susan’s paintings have been exhibited nationally and received many awards; much of her art can be found in personal and corporate collections in the country and abroad. Susan received her undergraduate degree from Clark University and her graduate degrees from the Rhode Island School of Design and Columbia University.

A call for student artists also has gone out for the annual Nassau County High School Student Exhibit, a juried competition and exhibition, Nov. 4 through 26. The deadline for entries is Oct. 13.
