Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso accompanied Majority Leader Crystal D. Peoples-Stokes and colleagues on a New York state Assembly Mission to Israel, sponsored by the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York. The JCRC provides fact-finding missions to Israel for Jewish and non-Jewish opinion-makers to promote issues of concern to Israel.

During his visit to Israel, Assemblyman D’Urso met with mayors and journalists to discuss the complex issues facing Israel. He also got a first-hand look at the reality for Israelis who live with the constant threat of terrorism. While touring the Gaza Strip the group was asked by the Israeli Defense Force to leave the area because of the threat of live fire. The area was bombarded with rockets from Gaza hours later.

“With less than a week in one of the most fascinating and beautiful countries, it was an intense and poignant experience,” D’Urso said, reflecting on his visit to the holy land. “It was especially meaningful spending the time with both my Jewish and non-Jewish Assembly colleagues enjoying and learning together about how much history we all share in the Promised Land. I am so grateful to the JCRC for making this trip possible.”
