Auxiliary police officers honored for service to community

Seven Nassau County Auxiliary Police Department volunteers in the 10th Legislative District were honored during a length-of-service awards ceremony on May 9 and by Nassau County Legislator Ellen Birnbaum, being commended for putting in hours of volunteer service.

APO Linda Halas-Kaplan and PFC Johnathan Levy were presented the 500-Hour Service Award at the ceremony and later received Nassau County citations recognizing their service.

Birnbaum also congratulated Deputy Inspector John Concannon and Captain Maria D’Amelio for receiving the 1,000-hour service award, Sergeant Rajinder Gujral and Sergeant Derrick Nankoo for receiving the 500-hour award, and PFC Rahsmi Zatar for receiving the 300-hour award.

“Through their selfless service to the community, members of the Nassau County Auxiliary Police Department provide valuable services to the public,” Birnbaum said. “I thank all of these outstanding volunteers for the important contributions they make to the community
