Call for Artists: Go! The Art of Transportation exhibition, competition

The Art Guild invites all artists to enter “Go! The Art of Transportation, A Juried Competition and Exhibition.”

Train, plane, automobile, horseback, covered wagon, ferry, sailboat, balloon, bus, or bicycle, how do you get around town – or around the world?

All artists, 18 years and older (high school students ages 14-18 years may enter in the student category), are invited to submit up to three works for consideration. All styles from abstract to realism are welcome.

Mediums may include but not limited to acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel, mixed media, collage, encaustic, etching/prints, or sculpture (with pedestal). Please, no photography, digital manipulations, copies, reproductions or giclées.

All works must be original and have been created in the last five years. The deadline for submissions is March 8. Artists may register online or download the prospectus at TheArtGuild.org.

The exhibit will be on view from March 30 through April 28. Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. or weekday hours by appointment. An Artists’ Reception and Awards Ceremony will be held March 31 from 3 to 5 p.m.

The juror-of-awards for this exhibit is Antonio Masi. Masi is president of the American Watercolor Society and has been featured in The Artist’s Magazine, PBS: Sunday Arts, NBC-TV: Weekend Today in New York,” and Newsday’s “Bridgemaster.” He’s had solo exhibitions at the NY Centennial Commission of the Queensboro Bridge, the Forbes Gallery in NY, the NY City Transit Museum, and the Salmagundi Club, and was featured in The New York Times video, “Living City: A Tale of Two Bridges” in 2014. Classes for children and adults run six days a week. An eight-week class, Introduction to Digital Art with Photoshop for Middle Schoolers with Heather Heckel, has been added to the schedule on Wednesday afternoons beginning Feb. 27. Children’s week-long summer workshops for ages 5-7 and 8-12 are now registering.

Adult workshops for 2019 include Seascapes and Winter Scenes in Pastel with Lana Ballot in March, The Floral Still Life in Oil with Jacqueline Kamin in June, Painting the Figure from Photographs in Watercolor with Ted Nuttall in June and Painting in Colored Pencil with Cynthia Knox in July. Many more exciting workshops are on the website and more are being added.

The Art Guild of Port Washington, Inc. is located at Elderfields Preserve, 200 Port Washington Blvd., Manhasset New York.
