Call For Nassau County high school artists submission deadline Oct. 7

The Art Guild invites all Nassau County high school students to submit artworks for consideration for the annual “Nassau County High School Student Juried Art Competition and Exhibition.” All high school students in grades 9-12 are invited to submit up to two artworks for consideration, no photography. The deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to exhibit their work in a professional award-winning gallery setting. The show will be on view at The Art Guild’s home, Elderfields Preserve at 200 Port Washington Blvd. in Manhasset from Saturday, Nov. 2 through Sunday, Nov. 24. Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 1 – 5 p.m. or by appointment. An Artists Reception and Awards Ceremony will be held on Sunday, Nov. 3 from 3 to 5 p.m. All are welcome to attend. Last year, the exhibit featured 56 works by 39 students, from both public and private schools, throughout Nassau County. The exhibit is sponsored by PM Pediatrics and Blick Artist Materials in Carle Place.

All styles from abstract to realism are welcome. Students’ 2D or 3D work must be original and done “by hand” and created within the last two years. All art must be original to the student, no fan art. See website for more details.

Including but not limited to acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel, mixed media, digital art, collage, encaustic, etching/prints or sculpture with pedestal; no copies, photos, reproductions or giclees.

Juror Bennett Horowitz received his BFA from Pratt Institute and his MFA from the California College of the Arts in Oakland with additional training at the School of Visual Arts. In addition to serving as instructor at the High School of Art & Design in Manhattan, Horowitz has been a fellow at the MacDowell Colony; his artwork has been exhibited at the Queens Museum and the Fine Arts Museum of Long Island, as well as numerous other solo and group shows. Horowitz is now primarily focused on developing his own Expressionist style of landscape painting; in the past he has also done a great deal of portrait/narrative figure painting.
