Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D-Glen Cove) donated a variety of new toys to the Port Washington Police District and Chamber of Commerce in support of their “Make a Child Smile” Toy and Food Drive.

This program, which was initiated and is still run by Police Detective Anthony Guzzello, is now in its 21st year of providing toys and non-perishable food items to Port Washington children and families during the holidays. Port residents and business owners make donations at drop-off points situated at various participating Chamber of Commerce member businesses.

“Nothing is more fulfilling than paying it forward during the holiday season – but it is even more gratifying to help deserving children and families in our own backyard,” Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton said. “I’m tremendously grateful to Joe LaPadula, Jon Holzer and retired USMC Major Chuck Kilbride for organizing and hosting America’s largest one-day Toys for Tots drive – an event that equips us to bring holiday cheer to so many families in Port Washington and throughout the region.”
