Water Authority of Great Neck North officials reassured the community that the water will continue to flow from the taps, without interruption, despite public concerns about disruptions in daily life attributed to the novel coronavirus.
Officials explained that the Authority’s pumping system has been fully integrated to a modern computer-controlled Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system that allows the water utility to operate at top efficiency at all times.
The state-of-the-art technology provides operators with full remote accessibility. Sophisticated alert and alarm controls; real-time visualization and monitoring; and controlled treatment capabilities are just some of the features.
Additionally, the Authority’s staff of licensed professionals are cross-trained and capable of completing all the tasks necessary for keeping the operating and distribution systems running without interruption.
Officials emphasized that it is not necessary to purchase bottled water. The product provided by the Authority continues to meet or exceed strict state and federal quality standards and is safe to drink.
Bottled water can cost up to 1,900 times more than the water provides by the Authority, which is routinely tested for more than 140 primary and secondary water quality standards.
Those choosing to limit their time in public places and stay closer to home are reminded of the conveniences provided by the availability of safe, clean water that flows from the taps.
