Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso participated in the flag planting ceremony held at the Vincent Smith School in Port Washington. The school has created an American Flag Field of Honor which will commemorate Armed Forces Day (May 19), Memorial Day (May 28) and Flag Day (June 14). These flags will be up until July 4.

Residents sponsored flags, which were planted on the school front lawn, in honor of or in memory of family and friends who have served or are currently serving our country. Names of honorees and sponsors will be listed on the school’s Facebook page.

The Smith School serves children with learning disabilities, ADHD, anxiety, and other learning difficulties in grades 1-12.

“We put up flags up to remember our local heroes and to honor our county,” said Assemblyman D’Urso, “I dedicated a flag to my wife Maria’s brother Anthony Manaco who served our military in Hawaii.”
