Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso recently spoke at the Metropolitan Transit Authority’s Diversity Council’s Jewish American Heritage Month commemoration ceremony.

D’Urso spoke about growing up in Italy during the Holocaust and how his family, due to their actions, saved the lives of Jews during the war. As a small boy, D’Urso was tasked with playing outside and calling out to his mother, in Italian, whenever he saw German soldiers approaching. With his help his family was able to save a large extended Jewish family (Sinigallia) in his hometown of Formia on the Mediterranean coast. A few months ago Tony made a trip to Italy to reunite with the descendants of the Sinigallia family.
