As part of his Eagle Scout program, East Hills resident and senior at the Roslyn High School, Yuhao “Jonathan” Lin, built a handsome Pergola to the Park at East Hills. Johnathan has been a member of the Boy Scouts since he was in sixth grade, continuing to rise through the ranks from Scout, to Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star Scout, and finally Life Scout.

The contribution for a community, officially acknowledged through a commendation, was required by the Boy Scouts which trains young men to be better citizens, as well as helps them build character and develop their leadership skills. His next step, to become an Eagle Scout, required him to take on a project that would benefit the community.

“Being an Eagle Scout isn’t just an honor, it is also a responsibility,” Lin said. “It helps me aspire to greater expectations and encourages me to be an active member of my community.”

To become an Eagle Scout, in addition to a contribution to the community, 13 merit badges are required, including diverse learning areas such as managing finances and even learning how to cook.

“I am grateful for the contribution made by Jonathan to East Hills,” Mayor Michael Koblenz said. “He is quite a craftsman. The new pergola and will be a real asset for our community.”
