EisnerAmper Four Mile Race to Feed Long Island

The Island Now

Runners and walkers of all ages and levels of ability are cordially invited to enter the EisnerAmper Four Mile Race to Feed Long Island, which will be held at Eisenhower Park on Sunday morning, March 7.

There is a virtual option for those who may not be comfortable participating in a live race.

The generous title sponsorship of the event provided by EisnerAmper guarantees that at least $5,000 from the event will be used to bolster the Food Drive that the Greater Long Island Running Club initiated 10 months ago near the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.  GLIRC’s Food Drive has to date delivered nearly 25,000 pounds of food and personal hygiene products, plus nearly $30,000 in supermarket gift cards, to soup kitchens and food pantries all over Long Island from Patchogue to Long Beach.

EisnerAmper is one of the largest full-service advisory and accounting firms in the United States.

In addition to EisnerAmper, other generous sponsors of the Race include All Round Foods, Long Island Beer Guide, and Bimbo Bakeries.

“We are slowly getting back to live racing on Long Island, and it is entirely fitting that one of the first races that our Club is staging will be raising some funds to help those who have felt the economic impact of the pandemic the most,” observed Running Club Race Director Jim Murray.  “The running community obviously can’t feed all of Long Island’s hungry families, but in large part thanks to the generosity of the good people at EisnerAmper we can continue to do our share through this Race and our ongoing Food Drive.”

Due to current Nassau County COVID-19 rules, registration is limited to residents of Nassau County, Suffolk County and the five boroughs of New York City.

The event will strictly comply with rules aimed at protecting everyone’s health.  All staff and volunteers will be wearing masks at all times.  Runners will be required to wear masks before the start of the race, and to resume wearing the mask as soon as they cross the finish line. There will be a staggered start to ensure social distancing.

Every registered runner or walker will receive a soft and warm commemorative winter hat in their grab-and-go bag when they cross the finish line. Virtual participants will have their hats mailed to them after the event.

Awards will be presented to the first male and female finishers and the first male and female Masters (age 40 plus) finishers in the “live” event.  There will be age group awards for the first three male and female finishers in each five-year age group from 14 and under through 80 and over.  The overall and Masters awards will be presented during a Facebook/Instagram ceremony a few days after the Race.  Age group awards can be mailed to the winners or picked up at the Running Club office in Plainview.  There are no awards for the “virtual” Race.

The entry fee for the Race is $35 for those who enter prior to 7:30 PM on Thursday, March 4th, and $40 for those who register later on March 4th, or on March 5th or March 6th.  Members of the Greater Long Island Running Club receive a $5 Discount.  There is no day-of-race registration.
