For more than a decade, Mineola nonprofit Family and Children’s Association (FCA) has organized their Adopt-a-Family campaign, spreading good cheer to some of Long Island’s most vulnerable families during the holiday season.

Now in its 11th year, the initiative provides opportunities for individuals, families, schools, organizations and corporations to donate gifts to FCA families in need. Participants may also “adopt” an individual or an entire FCA program.

Items are distributed according to a wish list of essential items needed. To date, more than 100 families per year have received presents, including clothing, televisions, tablets, home goods and toys. Among the donors who have contributed are Northwell Health, City MD, Burn Elementary School, Notre Dame Parish, SupplyHouse and Paw it Forward.

“Seeing the reaction of someone who has received a gift during the campaign is priceless,” said Marisa Paladino, FCA Special Events Coordinator. “Our seniors are especially grateful to be remembered and are often left speechless when witnessing the mounds of presents that come in. Tears of joy commonly accompany the thanks.”

Commenting on the Adopt-a-Family campaign, FCA President and CEO, Dr. Jeffrey Reynolds, said, “This initiative is a shining example of community spirit at its best. A heartfelt thanks to our generous donors who have helped brighten the holiday season for so many individuals in need.”
