The Island Now

A new parents group in Port Washington, Padres en Accion (Parents in Action), hosted its first event on Sunday, Nov. 4 in the gym at Landmark on Main Street. More than 100 people of all backgrounds attended “Halloween Latino,” which highlighted the food and traditions of the Latino community.

“We were able to bring people together to share music, food, gifts and lots of fun and hope in the future,” said Ana Lucia Condo, one of the organizers of the celebration. “We hope to host another event again for our beloved community of Port Washington.”

Padres en Accion was recently formed to support parents and children in the Latino community in Port Washington. Its initial mission is to help Latino families better work with the school system on issues of safety, communication, language access and academic support. Founding members include Ana Condo, Analia Quispe, Anabel Walzer, Ximena Tapía and Ana Fernadez.
