First Harvest Fest at Growing Love Garden

The Island Now

The Growing Love Community Garden invites the entire community to its first Harvest Fest to commemorate the end of its inaugural growing season. On Sunday, Oct. 28 from 1 to 4 p.m., the festivities will include pumpkin painting, face painting, a seed swap, crafts, the Grill Shack food truck, live music, storytelling, a Halloween costume contest, photo booth, raffles and a host of local vendors selling their goods.

Located directly behind and accessible through a gate of the Lady of Fatima parking lot on Manorhaven Boulevard, the Growing Love Community Garden was officially opened to plot owners on May 6 and the growth of all that has been planted is spectacular. Forty-six garden beds and five educational beds have positively overflowed with flowers, herbs and vegetables. Add to that the continuous release of Monarch butterflies, nurtured by committee member Tanya Clusener, and the beauty has gone beyond the wildest hopes and dreams of the Growing Love Garden committee.

Support the Growing Love Community Garden and its mission to connect our diverse community to healthy food, nature and each other by stopping by and saying hi to neighbors and friends during the Harvest Fest. To learn more about the project, visit growinglove.com.
