Floral Park Hosts annual PEARLS symposium

Floral Park Memorial High School’s PEARLS leaders recently participated in the school’s fourth annual symposium at Elmont Public Library.

Advisers Keisha Mickens and Dr. Cheryl St. John collaborated with Floral Park’s Cultural Proficiency team, Mr. Anthony D’Amico, Ms. Gina D’Ammassa, Ms. Carolyn Faggioni, Ms. Nasira Rafiq, Mr. Michael Spina and Mr. Kevin Sullivan, to provide the young ladies an experience that consisted of team- and trust-building activities and fellowship.

The PEARLS leaders wish to thank Principal Mr. Jason Martin for his commitment to the growth and maintenance of the program. They also thanked Sewanhaka High School Assistant Principal Ms. Nichole Allen, guidance chairperson Ms. Marilyn Heyward and Elmont Memorial music chairperson Ms. Ann-Marie Hudley-Simmons for being a part of the celebration. Not to be forgotten are those members of the school community who continue to support PEARLS leaders and were also in attendance, Ms. Rene Chin, Mrs. Cassandra Papajohn-Shaw and Dr. Christine Plackis.

The PEARLS leaders would also like to thank Dr. Kathleen Sottile for her vision, guidance and mentorship throughout the past three years, and wish her continued success in all of her future endeavors.
