The League of Women Voters of Port Washington-Manhasset is holding a Candidates’ Forum on Tuesday, Dec. 3 for the two men vying for the one open Port Washington Police Commissioner seat. It will start promptly at 7:30 p.m. in the Port Washington library. Port residents are urged to attend to meet the candidates, hear and compare their reasons for wanting the job and to ask questions.
The contenders are incumbent Dave Franklin, who has been a commissioner since 2010 and would like to retain his seat; and Frank Scobbo, a former Port Washington police officer and sergeant, who would like to replace him. Franklin moved to Port in the 1980s and worked for HBO for 33 years; Scobbo is a lifelong resident who has been working in his family’s construction company most of his adult life and is now an owner and CFO. Both men are college graduates and have been serving the community in numerous and varied ways for years.
The election will take place a week later on Tuesday, Dec.10, from 12:00 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Polish American Hall, located at 5 Pulaski Place. To vote in this election, a person must be registered to vote in the general election and be a resident of Port Washington.
