GNWPCD launches permit portal for customer convenience, efficiency, and transparency

The Island Now

The Great Neck Water Pollution Control District (GNWPCD) is proud to launch its Permit Portal enabling residents, developers, and local business owners to conveniently apply for all permits required by the District.

As the COVID-19 pandemic enters its second year, the District continues to find ways to limit face-to-face interactions so employees and residents can feel safe. “The District is constantly looking to improve the service experience for our residents while maintaining a safe interaction for everyone in these times of pandemic,” said GNWPCD Chairman Steve Reiter. “The launch of the Permit Portal is the culmination of months of planning and hard work that will further streamline our permitting process.”

The District continues to embrace technology and having a one-stop-shop for our constituents and contractors makes managing permits much more efficient. Building on our existing web site, the GNWPCD Permit Portal allows residents, contractors, and business owners to apply for New Connection, Disconnection, Service Repairs, Grease Trap, Amalgam Separator, Lint/Sediment Trap, and Hair Trap permits all from the comfort of their own home or office. In addition to permits, we also have applications for Sewer Availability and Sewer Map requests. If a contractor, plumber, or property owner has multiple projects in the District, they can monitor the status of each application on the Permit Portal user dashboard. The District and the residents both benefit from the increased transparency, as more information is made readily available.

With the completion of our grease receiving station, the District has also launched a separate portal for waste haulers interested in disposing of grease at our facility. Applications, payment, and scheduling are all managed through the Grease Hauler License Portal.

Creating an account is safe, easy, and only requires an email address. Once the user’s account is active, all permit correspondence, submittal reviews, and payments are accessible through the portal, minimizing the need for face-to-face meetings.

“Not only is this more convenient for customers, it saves a lot of staff time that would have otherwise been spent processing paperwork,” added Chairman Reiter. “Now that these processes are essentially automated, we can focus our resources to identify additional areas for improvement and efficiency.” For additional information and updates about the Great Neck Water Pollution Control District, visit the website at www.gnwpcd.net to sign up for email newsletters or call the office at 516-482-0238.
