The Island Now

The American Heart Association’s 19th Annual Go Red For Women Luncheon will be held on Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Crest Hollow Country Club, 8325 Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The goal of the luncheon is to improve women’s awareness about heart disease & stroke, provide Long Island women with resources, information, hope, and to teach them when it comes to beating heart disease and stroke, change can be the cure.

Combining an extensive networking portion, silent auction, elegant lunch and educational program featuring renowned health presenters and moving Long Island female survivor stories, the American Heart Association Go Red For Women Luncheon will be held to focus attention on the number one health threat facing women today – cardiovascular disease – and to urge women to take charge of their cardiovascular health to live longer, stronger lives.

The event will feature two heart health workshops and panel discussions between 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. “Gender Matters,” will feature Dr. Pilar Stevens-Haynes and Dr. Sherry Megalla from Mount Sinai South Nassau, and “Heart Teams: An approach to novel female cardiac risk factors,” will feature Dr. Evelina Grayver, Dr. Caroline Pessel, Dr. Sonia Henry, Dr. Ruby Sharma, and nurse practitioner Reva Gajer from Northwell Health.

This year’s honorees include: Nicole Penn, president of the EGC group; Barbara Liguori, senior market sales executive with CapitalOne Bank; the nurses of Mount Sinai South Nassau; and heart survivor Santina Guarcello-Hunt.
