While the 5K Race to save the Stepping Stone Lighthouse is a fun-packed morning of racers and walkers enjoying the course that begins and ends at Stepping Stones Park, the effort to raise money is a race against time and the forces of nature that are undermining the structure.

Things are happening! Bob Lincoln, who chairs the fundraising committee, says, “The installation of a dock slated to begin mid-September is an important milestone for the future of the lighthouse. Only when workers can efficiently transport materials onto the structure can we do the basic repairs that need to begin right away. The money we have raised will help us in designing a plan for the restoration. Our race sponsors and participants are making a big contribution to our efforts.”

EventPower is the professional race organization that has a team who make sure that the race is run safely and smoothly. Chairman Lincoln adds, “Hiring the folks at Event Power was one of the best decisions we made three years ago. They know what they’re doing and they have quite a following of racers who come to their events year after year. ”

The effort to restore the Lighthouse is a public/private partnership with the Town of North Hempstead, the Great Neck Historical Society, and the Great Neck Park District. Monies have been raised by grants and numerous fundraising activities.
