Reviewing accomplishments and community programs held during the past year will be the focus of the Great Neck Historical Society’s annual meeting, to be held Wednesday, June 13, at 7:30 p.m. at Great Neck House.

“Programs presented by the Historical Society during the past year were very well received,” said the organization’s president, Alice Kasten. “This is a great time to catch-up and see what the Historical Society is doing—and it is a wonderful time to become a member, too. The community is invited to our June meeting for a re-cap of the year’s programs and a preview of upcoming presentations.”

Among the group’s many programs was a talk on the history of the Merchant Marine Academy, a discussion on Great Neck’s cultural diversity featuring speakers from SHAI, the Sephardic Heritage Alliance, and the Great Neck Chinese Association, a discussion of famous composers from the community, a virtual tour of The Point, the historic Brickman estate at the tip of Kings Point, and an actual tour of Great Neck’s Barstow mansion.

In addition, the Historical Society conducted a 5K run/walk through the community to raise funds for the preservation of Steppingstones Lighthouse.

The Historical Society also recognized a number of historic homes in the area, presenting them with a plaque for the outside of the house and a certificate explaining its historic significance.

The annual meeting will also include reports on the Historical Society’s ongoing campaign to preserve the Steppingstones Lighthouse and the Saddle Rock Grist Mill.

Membership in the Historical Society is open to community residents and most presentations are free of charge. For further information about the organization visit www.GreatNeckHistorical.org or call 288-6124.
