Richard Deem of Great Neck received a $350 scholarship from the Nassau County Firefighters Emerald Society. The presentation took place on October 26 at the East Williston Fire Department. Deem, a sophomore at Kellenberg Memorial High School, and Chaminade High School senior Stephen Jones, were both recognized for their prize-winning essays about their Irish heritage.
Deem is also a member of the Great Neck Alert Junior firefighters. The Nassau County Firefighters Emerald Society is comprised of members of the Nassau County volunteer and career fire service, volunteer EMS, career EMS and volunteer firefighters in Queens County.
