Three teams of high school musicians from the Great Neck Public Schools will advance to the final round of the Young Musicians Innovation Challenge, sponsored by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS).
In October, four teams of Great Neck students presented their ideas for innovative chamber music projects to a panel of CMS judges during the preliminary round of competition. Three teams were selected to advance to the final round of competition.
Advancing teams receive two one-hour coaching sessions with CMS Board and Global Council members over Zoom to further develop their proposal. The final round of competition will take place virtually on Nov. 30.
The projects are: “Chamber Music Series,” submitted by North High students Nathaniel Bikhman, Sara Rafaeil, Jules Sanders, and Maverick Williams; “ChamberDischord,” submitted by South High students Brayden Chien, Drew Kim, and Sebastian Lennox; and “Musiclusive,” submitted by South High students Jillian Chang and Joy Yang.
The North High chamber music program is coordinated by Dr. Pamela Levy, performing and fine arts department head/vocal music teacher, and Joseph Rutkowski, instrumental music teacher. The South High chamber music program is coordinated by Michael Schwartz, performing arts department head/instrumental music teacher, and Dr. Janine Robinson, vocal music teacher.
