The second Budget Workshop for the Great Neck Library 2020/2021 Budget is scheduled for Monday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Library’s Large Multipurpose Room, 159 Bayview Avenue. AARP Driver’s Safety Course at Parkville:
Take this refresher driving course for drivers ages 50 and over for reduction in points or discounts on insurance on Saturday, March 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Parkville Branch, 10 Campbell St. (off Lakeville Road), New Hyde Park. New Beginnings Singles 50 Plus facilitated by Marla Matthews at Main:
Join the conversation or just come and listen when Marla Matthews, social worker and television talk show host of The Relationship Journey, facilitates this growing discussion, social and support group meetup on Saturday, March 14 at 4:00 p.m. in the Main Library’s Community Room, 159 Bayview Ave. Whether you are divorced, widowed, single, or an empty nester age 50 plus who would like a new beginning, come and be inspired to make new friends, network and learn new skills towards reinventing yourself. Artists’ reception in the Main Library Gallery:
Join Judy Vine and Suzanne Gordon for their opening reception on Sunday, March 15 from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. in the Main Library Gallery, 159 Bayview Ave. The exhibit is on view until March 29.
Judy Vine’s collection of paintings on exhibit represent impressions and moods derived from travels around the U.S., Israel, Portugal, Italy, and France.
Suzanne Gordon’s exhibit is of portraits in acrylic on canvas. She also does decorative paintings of furniture, rooms, shirts, dresses, and lunchboxes.
The Story of Yiddish presented by Dr. Linda Burghardt at Main:
Dr. Linda Burghardt tells the story of Yiddish on Tuesday, March 17 at 2:00 p.m. in the Main Library’s Community Room, 159 Bayview Ave. She will speak about its roots in the Middle Ages and its enormous literary, musical and scholarly contributions, to its steep decline after the Holocaust – and its surprising resurgence in modern culture throughout the world today.
Dr. Burghardt is scholar-in-residence at the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County and former journalist for The New York Times.
Non-Fiction Book Club facilitated by Librarian Mimi Rabizadeh at Main:
Librarian Mimi Rabizadeh will facilitate a discussion of Rising Strong by Brené Brown on Tuesday, March 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Main Library’s Large Multipurpose Room, 159 Bayview Ave. Call 466-8055, ext. 218/219.
AARP Tax Assistance at Parkville:
AARP Tax Preparers will assist in preparing and filing simple Federal tax returns online only each Wednesday beginning February 5 until April 15 between the hours of 12:00 and 4:00 p.m. at the Parkville Branch, 10 Campbell St. (off Lakeville Road), New Hyde Park. The Great Neck Library is seeking prospective candidates for the Board of Trustees and Nominating Committee. This year’s Library Election will be held on Monday, October 26, 2020. There will be four seats expiring in January 2021 – two on the Board of Trustees: Rebecca Miller and Josie Pizer; and two on the Nominating Committee: Cheng Carey Ye and Siu Long (Alex) Au.
Any nominee for a position on the Board of Trustees or the Nominating Committee must be a member of the Great Neck Library Association by 5:00 p.m. on the Record Date of October 5, 2020. All persons eighteen years of age or older, who are residents of the Great Neck School District and are either valid library cardholders or registered voters with the Nassau County Board of Elections will be members of the Association.

In order to access this service, Library District residents can log on to cancellations.com, type in their zip code or Great Neck Library and obtain information on program cancellations or Library closings. In addition, at no charge, residents can request automatic e-mails from cancellations.com when the Library has posted any information. This is a great way for Library District residents who are connected online to be advised of weather-related changes in Library hours or programs.
