Born in a small Russian village, Marc Chagall rose to become one of the most famous and influential artists of his day. Despite his many sources of inspiration, his Jewish roots, he said, were always his truest guide: “If I were not Jewish I never would have become an artist.”
Dr. Linda Burghardt, the Scholar-in-Residence at the Holocaust Memorial &Tolerance Center, is a journalist and author from Great Neck.
