Tryouts for this year’s 29th annual HarborFest talent show will take place on Friday, May 3 from 7 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, May 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. All Port Washington children between the ages of 5 and 18 who sing, dance, play a musical instrument, read poetry or are otherwise talented are encouraged to audition.

This year’s HarborFest celebration will take place on Sunday, June 2 on and around the Town Dock. The Children’s Fun Stage will feature entertainment for all ages from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The talent show runs for about three hours beginning at 10 a.m.

Note that the audition location has changed from the previous years’ location and all participants need to email harborfest2019@yahoo.com no later than May 1. Auditions will take place at DanceWorks NY at 10 Soundview Marketplace in Port Washington.

A smartphone plug-in and bluetooth speaker will be provided, but please bring your own musical instruments. Instrumentalists not performing with bands should come to the auditions, but bands should instead send an email to the address above.

After managing the Children’s Fun Stage for the past 18 years, Debbie Greco Cohen is handing the stage over to two very capable replacements. Trish Gargani, owner of DanceWorks NY is the new co-chairperson along with Chrissy Kiernan, the clerk-treasurer of the Village of Baxter Estates. Since Gargani’s students have a recital on HarborFest Sunday, Kiernan will manage the stage for the day.

Other HarborFest activities include performances at the tugboat, games and activities for children, a craft fair, cruises on the schooner SoundWaters and the new Port Washington Water Taxi, local merchant booths, a model boat regatta for third graders, a fabulous food court, an Enviro-Expo, a new exhibit in the “Pride of Cow Bay” nautical museum, free trolley rides, baseball and basketball contests at the PAL Field and much more. For more information on the talent show or other HarborFest activities, call the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce office at (516) 883-6566.
