Herricks finishes fall sports season

Herricks High School athletes wrapped up the fall season with numerous team triumphs and personal success stories.

Nine varsity teams achieved Scholar Athlete status for academic averages of 90 or better, including the Boys and Girls Cross Country, Boys Golf, Boys Soccer, Boys Volleyball, Cheerleading, Girls Soccer, Girls Swimming, Girls Tennis and Girls Volleyball teams.

Members of the Football team were presented with accolades at the Nassau County Gridiron Banquet, which was held on Dec. 6. For the third time in the last four years, the Herricks Football program was announced as the recipient of the Community Service Award as voted on by the Nassau County High School Football Coaches Association.

Also at the football celebration, Christopher Peguero was honored with a LIAFO Unsung Hero plaque and LIAFO Conference Scholarship at the event, and Michael Lee received a National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete plaque. Jordan Chin received an All-Conference plaque and Academic All-Conference certificate, and William McCreery earned an All-Conference plaque.

Athletes representing a variety of teams attained All-County, All-Conference, All-Class and All-Division titles, as listed below, and Sophia Karras and Katherine Hong were state qualifiers and county champions in swimming.
