The Mineola Junior Fire Department made its annual trip to the firemen’s home in Hudson, N.Y.

The home, set against the naturally beautiful backdrop of the Catskill Mountains in provides quality healthcare, rehabilitative therapy, daily social activities and special events.

The juniors have gone every year for the past 21 years in which they make a donation to the home to help the costs for the residents.

The home fosters the volunteer firefighter lifestyle, encouraging members’ memories of the service to live on in their stories told to one another or to visitors that come to the home. The old timers have plenty to talk about their time in the fire service.

Over 400 firefighter’s and 120 junior firefighters from Nassau and Suffolk County were on hand to celebrate Long Island Day. After a short parade on the unusually warm day, there were ceremonies where dignitaries of New York State and FASNY were present.

The home held a barbecue for the guests and the rest of the day was spent playing football and enjoying other activities that the home offers.
