John Lewis Childs School kindergartners in Candice Nagle’s and Erin Notaro’s classes celebrated their completion of kindergarten by performing for parents and special guests.

Nagle’s class’ performance of “Kindergarten Rock” included the singing of five upbeat song selections with unique dance moves. Prior to the show, the students learned about being in “performance mode.” They practiced body awareness, such as how to sit, stand, make eye contact, smile and what to do with their bodies when they were waiting for the next move. They also learned songs, which helped improve their rhyming skills and dance moves for each song, including the popular “dab and floss.” The students took turns practicing speaking and singing in loud, clear, slow voices; rehearsed in front of students in pre-K through first grade and discussed how they could improve.

Notaro’s class’ play focused on the solar system. As part of the school curriculum, the class studied the solar system and learned all the facts about the planets. During the play, each student shared facts about the eight planets and taught the audience about how individual parts – the planets – comprise a working whole. The lesson of the play was to teach and to show how the solar system works as a team together.
