League of Women Voters to livestream candidate forums for NYS Legislature on Oct. 7 & 20

The Island Now

The League of Women Voters of Port Washington-Manhasset (LWV) will once again give voters the opportunity to learn more about contenders for seats in the NYS legislature by streaming two virtual Candidates Forums from its website.

The first will be on Wednesday, Oct. 7, starting at 7 p.m. for NYS Senate District 5 and 8:30 p.m. for NYS Assembly District 13. Incumbent Jim Gaughran (D), Edmund J Smyth (R), and Barbara S. Wagner (GRE) are vying for the Senate seat. Charles Lavine (D) and Andrew Monteleone (R) hope to win your vote for Lavine’s current Assembly seat.

Then on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the same time, contenders will face off for NYS Senate District 7 and Assembly District 16 seats. Anna Kaplan (D) and David Franklin (R) are vying for Anna’s current place in the Senate. Gina Sillitti (D) and Ragini Srivastava (R) both want the open Assembly seat.

Voters can submit questions for candidates both before and during the forum. Go to bit.ly/SenatePWM to ask Senate questions and bit.ly/AssemblyQuestions to ask Assembly questions.

Which districts apply to you and all essential voter information can be found on the LWV personalized voter information webpage, VOTE411.org.

Both forums will be live-streamed from the League’s home page (my.lwv.org/new-york/port-washington-manhasset). Just click on “Subscribe to our YouTube channel” a few minutes before start time.
