Levels Teen Center to hold virtual auditions for upcoming performance

The Island Now

The Levels Teen Center of the Great Neck Library has moved auditions and performances online. Auditions on Zoom for She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms by Qui Nguyen will be held Tuesday, Sept. 29, and Thursday, Oct. 1, both days between 6:30-9:30 p.m. Auditions are for teens 7th grade and up.

She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms is a coming-of-age story about high school cheerleader Agnes Evans, who is trying to deal with the death of her 15-year-old sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she stumbles into a fantasy adventure in the imaginary gaming world that was Tilly’s refuge – leading to Agnes’ discovery of a whole side of Tilly’s real-life that she never knew about. She Kills Monsters will be directed by student Leah Schader.

The play has been specially adapted by the author for virtual online performance and will be performed completely live by the actors at home over Zoom, and live-streamed to audiences watching at home on Dec. 3, 4, and 5, 2020.

Levels, the Library’s cultural center for teenagers established in 1974, presents several fully staged theatrical productions a year, giving teens the opportunity to learn leadership and responsibility through the arts. Levels productions are directed, produced, and performed by students in seventh-grade through college-age under the guidance of Levels’ staff of accomplished adult artists.
