The Island Now

On March 2nd, 2021, Candice and Ronald Schiller passed away at ages 70 and 72, respectively.

Candice was born on April 12, 1950, in New York City to Fred and Marguerite Benjamin. She had one older sister, Damaris. Ronald was born on Sept. 22, 1948, in Brooklyn NY to Gilbert and Sylvia Schiller and had one younger sister, Randi.

“Candy” and “Ron,” as they liked to be called, were married for 37 years and lived in Great Neck, NY. Candy was a talented and inspiring fitness instructor who together with Ron, created “Something Physical,” a gym that became many exercise enthusiast’s home away from home for over 35 years. With a passion for helping people achieve their goals and a strong work ethic, they put their all into building a place that would prove to be an undeniable contribution to the fitness community. They made a name for themselves; the gym was their world and they established great relationships with their members.

Candy was a devoted aunt who loved spoiling the kids and spending time with them. She was bright, tenacious, and had strength beyond measures.  Ron was also very bright and knew about so much from technology to current events to trivial information. Time spent with him was always a good conversation that could last for hours. Together they enjoyed cars, watching movies, and loved their cats, Nathan and Chase.

They are survived by their sisters; their nieces Marnie, Jodie, Wendy, and Amanda; grand nieces Callie, Maggie, and Francesca; grand nephews Benjamin, Damian, Jack, and Nick; and Ron’s son Alex. They were loved by their family, friends, and gym members, and we wish for them to rest in peace together.
