At the most recent of these meetings in late January, Manhasset Board of Education trustees, central administrators, teachers and community members met with high schoolers to explore what they believe the district is doing well, as well as ways to improve the overall student experience.

Held in a roundtable format in the Manhasset Secondary School library, Butera facilitated questions that allowed students to discuss opportunities they are provided in the district, as well as express their ideas for what they would want to see enhanced.

Students expressed their appreciation for the broad range of courses and opportunities available to them, as well as the diverse sports teams and extracurricular activities they can join. They also offered ideas for improvement, including capping the number of AP courses students can take, enhancing communication between departments to limit the number of tests given on the same day, and establishing a unified rigor across all subject areas.

These listening sessions are intended to develop a clear understanding of the current experience

The information gathered at these monthly meetings will help inform a survey that will be provided to the entire Manhasset Secondary student body in March. The survey will also be given to parents and faculty across the district. The results of that survey will allow the district to examine  practices with the goal of strengthening the academic, social and emotional well-being of current and future students.
