Mercy Hospital breaks ground on Ambulatory and Family Care Center

The Island Now

Long Islanders will soon benefit from Catholic Health’s Mercy Hospital’s new Ambulatory and Family Care Center. The modern facility, located on the hospital campus, will provide expanded services to the community, including primary care, cardiology, endocrinology and more.

“Mercy Hospital has a long history of providing families access to quality health care,” said Mercy President Peter Scaminaci. “Our Ambulatory and Family Care Center will further enhance the quality, compassionate care we offer while maintaining a strong connection to the world-class health care experts and services across Catholic Health.”

The project is being supported, in part, by a $1.3 million grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation. The state-of-the-art 16,000-square-foot medical office building will serve as the home of Mercy’s women’s and children’s services, which are currently located inside the hospital.

Since its founding more than 100 years ago, Mercy Hospital has provided the community much-needed family care services. With more than 1,000 births annually, Mercy is recognized for its leadership in caring for women and their babies before, during and after delivery.

The hospital recently expanded its telehealth services by offering maternal-fetal medicine care to high-risk expectant mothers of the Family Care Center. Thanks to a grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, Mercy has increased health care access and offers virtual services to expectant mothers who are diagnosed with diabetes, chronic hypertension, and/or pre-eclampsia; in addition to mothers who need genetic counseling.

Expectant mothers receiving MFM services for the aforementioned conditions will receive Bluetooth-enabled devices, including a tablet with a camera, a glucometer to measure sugar levels, a blood pressure cuff, a pulse oximeter to measure oxygen levels and a scale.

Additionally, Mercy’s Family Care Center recently expanded its pediatric care services. The center is home to Catholic Health Physician Partners pediatric specialists, which includes allergy/immunology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology, infectious disease, nephrology, neurology and pulmonology.

Catholic Health’s team is dedicated to offering outstanding medical treatment for every child in a skilled and nurturing environment. Board-certified physicians in multiple pediatric subspecialties are experienced in advanced medicine required to address each child’s specific health care needs.
