Merillon Little League kicks off 67th season with parade

Merillon Little League of New Hyde Park opened its 67th season with its annual parade.

Richard Nicolello, presiding officer of the Nassau County Legislature, threw out the first pitch.

The Manor Oaks and Hillside grade school band, led by Carolyn Goodman, participated in the parade and played God bless America at the opening day ceremony. Hailey Mikowski sang the National Anthem.

Garden City Park and New Hyde Park Fire departments annually participate in the parade route, with fire trucks. The Nassau County third precinct closed off the roads and protected marchers.

Chairman Tom Murphy presented this year’s Joe Roy Volunteer of the Year Award went to Robert Teetz.

Chairman Tom Murphy presented this year’s Joe Roy Volunteer of the Year Award went to Robert Teetz, Bobby. Teetz has been at Merillon since 2011 and has served in many roles. He currently is the Little League player agent. In addition to his Merillon duties, Teetz is married to Christine and father of Robert Jr. Joey and his new addition Madison. Teetz has coached his boys since their start in T Ball and has always found a way to give his boys equal time on and off the field.

President Mark Wasserman presented this year’s coaches achievement award to Michael Stone. His dedication to the game of baseball was recognized by the Merillon board. Wasserman is the Dean of Students for a New York City high school.
