Mineola board of education honors robotics team

At its May 31 meeting, Mineola Union Free School District’s Board of Education and administration honored Mineola High School’s robotics team for its achievement as a national qualifier in the FIRST Robotics Competition. Team members included Shamnas Anil, David Batista, Sachin Dhiman, Raquel Galan, Qamber Jafri, Erlisa Kabashi, Derek Lee, Jock Li, Carmen Lima, Valerie Mallon, Jonathan Mathew, Danny Murray, Jillian Parrino, Christina Peitler, Ronit Setia, Colleen Talty and Shen Yin.

Team adviser Kuri DiFede was also recognized for having received the 2018 New York: Greater New York City Affiliate – Educator Award Winner. The NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Educator Award publicly celebrates formal and informal educators who encourage high school women’s interest and participation in technology pursuits. Three students were also acknowledged from this organization for their demonstrated interest and achievements in computing, proven leadership ability, academic performance and plans for post-secondary education. The three were Raquel Galan, winner of the 2018 New York: Greater New York City Affiliate, Jillian Parrino, honorable mention in the 2018 New York: Greater New York City Affiliate, and Christina Peitler, honorable mention in the 2018 New York: Greater New York City Affiliate.
