The Mineola High School Canstruction Team built the structure, “Make Hunger Disappear” as part of the Canstruction Long Island competition. The display, which looks like rabbit ears coming out of a magic hat, was built completely out of cans and boxes of food.

Canstruction is a design and building competition that fights hunger on Long Island. Teams of students, businesses, architects, designers and vendors are challenged with creating large structures made entirely of canned food. Leading up to the competition, teams held fundraisers, donation drives and raffles to obtain the appropriate number of cans to bring their structures to life.

Mineola’s structure was on display at the RXR Plaza in Uniondale as part of the Canstruction Long Island competition. The team won two awards: “Most CANtastic,” or best meal and “Best CANcept,” or best use of labels. After the competition, the cans are donated to community food banks.
