The sixth season of Stephen C. Widom Cultural Arts at Emanuel continues on Sunday, May 6 at 3:00 p.m., with A Centenary Celebration of the Music of Leonard Bernstein, performed by the Mineola Choral Society Chorus & Orchestra, Thomas W. Jones, conductor.

A musician of extraordinary gifts, Leonard Bernstein gained
international fame as a conductor, composer, pianist and
 educator.

His compositions cover a remarkably wide range
of styles and genres, from the modern complexity of his early
three symphonies, through two operas (“Trouble in Tahiti” being
the best known), thjazz-influenceded dance music from “Fancy
Free,” chamber music, songs, film music (On the Waterfront—nominated for an Oscar) and music theater, with the musicals “On the Town” and “Wonderful Town” (a Tony Award Winner).

The 80-voice Mineola Choral Society and 37-piece orchestra, along with a 20-voice children’s chorus from Grace Christian Academy in Merrick and soloists with boy soprano will present music from the shows “West Side Story” and “On The Town,” with selections from Mass and Chichester Psalms.

This season, the Mineola Choral Society celebrates 70 years of presenting the highest quality choral music to Long Island communities.

Conductor Thomas W. Jones joined the society in 2006 and is also conductor of the Huntington Men’s Chorus and the Stone House Singers, a chamber choir in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
